Caption: While outdoor winter temperatures hover in the single digits, floating water lettuce and hyacinth, and tall papyrus plant stalks grow in the tropical rain forest house at the Botany Greenhouse at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Jan. 22, 2008. The 8,000-square-foot greenhouse features more than 1,000 species, including distinct aquatic, desert, and tropical communities; supports the instructional and research needs of the Department of Botany and other university departments; and is open to the public.
